Drywall

The use of boric acid in the manufacture of drywall increases the strength
of the drywall and reduces the total weight of the product.  It also
increases the tensile strength so that it can better withstand handling and
nailing into the support structure.  Also, the boric acid increases the fire
retardant properties of the product and assists in protecting the paper
backing from burning while the product is being dried.
