Lubricants

Boron is critical as a necessary additive in many lubricant formulations in
order to prevent corrosion and the formation of sludge during the
application of the fluid.  Boron also reduces effect of moisture formation;
acts as a pH buffer; reduces friction and lengthens storage stability.
Often, boric acid is reacted to form borate esters which act to absorb
moisture in the fluid.  Boron is used as an additive for engine oil, brake
fluids, antifreeze, metalworking fluids and fuel additives.
